Innovation for Food Security in the Southcoast of Massachusetts: An Economic Imperative

When: Wednesday, February 1, 2017
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Where: > See description for location
Cost: Free, but registration is required. Please register at semaponline.org/foodsecurity
Description: Please join us at this Southcoast Food Security Form to learn more about food security in our region and the innovations being made to address the issue locally.

The Forum's keynote will be delivered by Ellen Parker, the executive director of Project Bread. Under Ms. Parker, Project Bread evolved from a traditional anti-hunger organization to a leading national model that responds to the individual crisis of food security while investing in systemic changes to prevent hunger.

The event will also include a panel discussion of local experts: Christine Sullivan, Coastline Elderly Services; Maurice Cyr, BCC and UMass Dartmouth Food Pantries; and David Weed, Healthy City Fall River.

In addition, there will be short, dynamic presentations from local innovators and organizations on various food security topics including the future of urban agriculture in New Bedford; subsidized farm shares; healthy eating/active living.

After the event, there will be the opportunity to network with local innovators, food security organizations, and food producers. Locally sourced hors d'oevres will be served.

The Southcoast Security Forum is being held at the Charlton College of Business' Learning Pavilion and Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Business Innovation Reseearch Center and the Leduc Center for Civic Engagement in collaboration with Coastline Elderly Services, the Marion Institute Connector Series, the Southeastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership, and the Southeastern Massachusetts Food Security Network.
