Description: All are invited to the showing of "The Maias," a movie by Joao Botelho (2014), based on the 19th-century novel by Eca de Queiros with the same title. This is a Portuguese movie with English subtitles. Movie is preceded by a short lecture by Prof. Frank Sousa (UMass Lowell) entitled "Eca de Queiros's "The Maias" in 1888 and 2016." Main actor Graciano Dias (playing Carlos da Maia) will be available for discussion and Q&A after the movie. This event is free and open to the public (please use parking lot 13, at UMD).
