12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Room 314
Description: Description: Prof. Mignone and Prof. Thomas will share their experiences mentoring a wide range of humanities students at Brown University. PRESENTER BIO: Sarah Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies at Brown University, whose faculty she joined in 2013. Her research focuses on contemporary literature and film from Spain and Latin America with a special interest in post-dictatorship societies. At Brown she has mentored undergraduates in projects including course design, honors thesis research, and her own scholarly projects, as well as serving as the advisor for a Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellow.
Lisa Mignone has been an Assistant Professor of Classics at Brown University since 2009. As a social historian of the Roman Republic, she focuses primarily on the ongoing and interactive relationship of historical events and the sites in which they occur. She has affiliations in the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, Spatial Structures in the Social Sciences (S4), and Religions of the Ancient Mediterranean. In these various roles, Lisa Mignone has collaborated with undergraduates on her own research, as well as mentored undergraduate projects such as honors theses, independent studies, summer projects overseas, and database construction.
