Description: TOPIC: PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL MQTT-SN IN INTERNET OF THINGS

LOCATION: Lester W. Cory Conference Room
Science & Engineering Building (Group II), Room 213A

ABSTRACT:
The Internet of Things (IoT) connects physical objects or devices using the Internet and sensors, which enable the objects to collect data and exchange data in real-time. The MQTT-SN, which stands for Message Queue Telemetry Transport for Sensor Networks, is a broker-based lightweight communication protocol designed for IoT in environments where network quality is poor, bandwidth is low, or energy sources are limited. In this project, performance of the MQTT-SN protocol is studied using the queuing network theory. In particular, we model the MQTT-SN protocol using a Jackson's queueing network model, which is then analyzed with traffic equations and the Jackson's theorem. Performance metrics including utilization, queuing time, throughput, queue length, and system response time are addressed. Effects of parameters such as node (gateway, server) service rate, external data arrival rate are also investigated.
