Description: TOPIC: RELIABILITY ANALYSIS OF STANDBY SYSTEMS WITH BACKUPS AND REPLACEMENTS USING MONTE CARLO SIMULATIONS

LOCATION: Lester W. Cory Conference Room, Science & Engineering Building (Group II), Room 213A

ABSTRACT:
This project considers 1-out-of-N: G heterogeneous warm standby systems subject to periodic backup actions as well as component replacements. Two types of replacements are performed during the mission: corrective replacements are triggered by the failure of the online operating component, and preventive replacements are performed to renew the aged online component before its failure by an available standby component. Backups are performed to facilitate effective restoration of system operation in case of the occurrence of corrective or preventive replacements. Monte Carlo simulations are implemented in the Matlab environment to evaluate performance of such a complex system. Performance indices considered include mission reliability, expected mission completion time, expected mission operation cost, and expected uncompleted work fraction. Results from this work can provide insights into the reliable design and operation of 1-out-of-N: G heterogeneous warm standby systems.

NOTE: All ECE Graduate Students are ENCOURAGED to attend.
