Description: Frederick Douglass was the most photographed American in the nineteenth century. He envisioned the the new technology of photography at the time as a crucial aid in ending slavery, racism and achieving human rights.

John Stauffer, Professor of English and African American Studies at Harvard and author of Picturing Frederick Douglass will highlight some of the images in his new book and share his insights on how Douglass crafted and controlled his personal image.

Join us Wednesday, September 21 from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Grand Reading Room at the Claire T. Carney Library at the UMass Dartmouth.

Event is free and open to the general public with light refreshments served.
