Description: The UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company is presenting “Into the Woods” beginning Thursday for a 4-day engagement in the school’s main auditorium. Show times are 7 p.m. on Nov. 10, 11 and 12, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 13.

The UMass Dartmouth Theatre Company is a student-run organization with members from every discipline. Its mission is to provide professional theater to the local community.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the company wanted to do something spectacular and so chose "Into the Woods" for its fall musical debut.
The performers have been working since the end of September and rehearse amidst course schedules, exams, and other extracurricular activities.
"Into the Woods" follows the life of the Baker as he and his wife are tasked by the Witch to collect an assortment of magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse a curse placed on their family tree. Nathaniel Tarantino will direct the performance with Jack Tiernan playing the leading role of the Baker.
It's a show that captures the childlike wonder we all feel when listening to a fairy tale--with exuberant costumes that offer a contrast to the dark, consuming woods. The characterizations are on the extreme side of the spectrum, with the performers overacting to evoke a fairy-tale world.
Between the beautiful songs and gut-wrenching jokes, prepare for a night of laughter, entertainment, and quality theater.
