Standing Rock and the Dakota Access Pipeline

When: Wednesday, March 1, 2017
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description: In 2016, the Standing Rock Sioux Nation objected to an oil pipeline that was slated to be built across their lands, and along with a diverse group of Natives and activists blocked the planned construction. I will discuss the role that anthropology/archaeology played in the pipeline project, while contextualizing the continued strained relationship between American Indians and those that study them
