Valuing Diversity As A Response To (Re-)Emergent Segregation

When: Thursday, March 2, 2017
4:00 PM - 5:15 PM
Description: The session is framed as a Tale of Two Cities based on demographic analyses of Austin, TX and the Greater Providence/Fall River/New Bedford RI-MA metropolitan areas. We will address how a progressive and vibrant city like Austin could top the list of most economically segregated cities in the US by having participants use simple but powerful simulation environments to explore both how (re-) segregation can emerge as a bottom-up phenomena and how valuing diversity can serve as a response.
