Loretta Ross: Reproductive Justice in the Age of Trump
When: Tuesday, March 28, 2017
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Stoico/FIRST FED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room
Description: Loretta Ross is a founder of the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Health Collective, a network created in 1997 consisting of 80 women of color and allied organizations that work on reproductive justice issues.

The election of Donald Trump has brought to light many undercurrents of injustice simmering below the surface of American life. Perhaps the most blatant is the attacks on the bodies of women and children through their perverted views normalizing sexual assault and pedophilia. Reproductive justice activists have long warned about the need to broaden the movement protecting abortion rights into a human rights movement that uses intersectionality to bring together people dedicated to fighting white supremacy, homophobia, gender oppression, transphobia, hatred of immigrants, and attacks on Indigenous people.

This presentation will provide an analysis of reproductive justice, analyze the different strands of the white supremacist movement, and offer a vision of how to build a human rights movement centered on justice in the United States.
