7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Stoico/FIRST FED Charitable Foundation Grand Reading Room
Description: Learn more about the hit film "12 STRONG" at a public lecture on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 7pm.

Professor Brian Glyn Williams of the History Department will be joined by Batur Dostum--son of the Afghan warlord and current Afghan Vice President General Dostum--for "The Real-Life Story Behind 12 STRONG."

The film is based on Prof. Williams' book "The Last Warlord," which is about General Dostum.

Williams served as advisor for the film, working with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and actors Chris Hemsworth and Navid Negahban as they told the story of the 12 Green Beret soldiers who partnered with Dostum to fight the Taliban in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Batur Dostum will discuss the film's portrayal of his father and the war on the Taliban, to be followed by a presentation by Prof. Williams. Williams spent 2 summers living with General Dostum in the plains of northern Afghanistan and has been an advisor to the U.S. Army and the CIA.
