Religious Literacy: Hinduism and the spiritual Value of Yoga

When: Monday, February 12, 2018
12:05 PM - 12:55 PM
Cost: free
Description: The word Yoga is used by the Hindu scriptural texts to mean a comprehensive discipline to integrate and concentrate our faculties and direct them to the goal of life, which is presented as realizing the self or realizing the all-pervading Divine Existence or God. Yoga is bridging the gap between theoretical understanding and practical experience.

Our presenter, Swami Yogatmananda, was born in 1953 in Karnataka state (India). He joined Ramkrishna Order in 1976. He received his monastic vows in 1986. He came to the United States in 2001 as the Minister of the Vedanta Society of Providence. He is the Hindu Chaplain at UMass Dartmouth.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life at UMass Dartmouth. It is part of the ongoing series in Religious Literacy. The program is in the Campus Center, 2nd floor conference room.
