  • Description: This face-to-face workshop provides a hands-on introduction to the teaching and learning features of (new myCourses)Blackboard Learn. You will view the course first as a student so you will be familiar with how the course environment appears to your own students. As a student, you will learn how to access and navigate through tools and content. Next, you will learn about the roles an instructor plays in the online environment and identify key attributes for success. From there, you will learn how to set up the Course Menu, your students' access point to tools and content, and how to create Content Areas that contain materials, tools, and resources. You will have the opportunity to add a course structure to your development course, allowing you to learn about Blackboard Learn tools and features as you experience them in the course environment. Finally, you will become familiar with some common start-up tasks, such as creating announcements, adding a syllabus, adding calendar entries, and setting up discussion forums.

  • Description: The first workshop in the three part series covers the basics of Adobe Photoshop, and is intended for users with little or no Photoshop experience. Topics covered include an introduction to color theory, working with the document window, the toolbox, and palettes. Also covered are the use of the painting tools, the history brush, and different methods of color selection. This workshop takes place in the Library, room 226.   • Description: Tuesday, September 30, 12:30 – 1:30pm, Library 314 - Strategies for Advising Large Student Cohorts (Charlotte Hamlin, Artisanry) As the University progresses with recruiting efforts, there is a critical need to advise larger and larger cohorts of students. Oftentimes these important duties fall on the shoulders of the least experienced faculty members. Professor Hamlin presents organizational strategies for advising students early and often. From preparing and updating program outlines, to enrollment to helping with elective options, her techniques will help you and your students stay on track for timely graduation.   • Description: This workshop is geared toward educators who wish to simplify the process of evaluating student performance and calculating final grades. Participants learn how to organize student data on a worksheet, calculate averages, weighted averages, and use a lookup table to control the contribution of different scores toward a student's final grade. Excel can even convert number grades to letter grades automatically! Also covered are some of Excel's statistical functions. Previous Excel experience is required.   • Description: This workshop covers the use of templates, and other time-saving features of Microsoft Word. Templates are used as blueprints for standardized documents, such as stationery. Using templates eliminates the repetitive task of creating each document from scratch. Word’s tables and graphics features are also presented in detail.
