  • Description: This workshop is geared toward educators who wish to simplify the process of evaluating student performance and calculating final grades. Participants learn how to organize student data on a worksheet, calculate averages, weighted averages, and use a lookup table to control the contribution of different scores toward a student's final grade. Excel can even convert number grades to letter grades automatically! Also covered are some of Excel's statistical functions. Previous Excel experience is required.   • Online Teaching and Learning Strategies Training

  • Description: In this training course, we will introduce you to current research and best practices for both online and blended teaching as well as showcase examples of successful teaching strategies for both methodologies. Throughout the training you will work both independently and collaboratively with your peers to gain valuable online course transition experience and develop strategies in online teaching and learning. As a training participant, you will learn both pedagogical aspects of teaching online as well as how to use and incorporate many of the tools available in the myCourses Learning Management System used at UMD. The ultimate goal of the training is to have you begin planning, organizing and building the course you eventually plan to teach. In addition, this training will introduce you to tools that will teach you how to self-assess course site design to ensure student ease of access to course content and to facilitate more streamlined student learning and retention. Please note: This training is offered entirely online and will be conducted over a four week time frame.

  • Description: Please join us for the third Teaching and Learning Technology Brown Bag session on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 12:30pm in Library 314. Professor Karen Gulbrandsen, recipient of the 2013 Provost’s Award for Best Practice in Assessment in a Blended or Fully Online Course will discuss her redesign of the team project in Technical Communication (ENL 266) using online technologies to integrate formative assessment in both the online and face-to-face classrooms. Karen will share her effective strategies and present data that suggests that the online tools enhanced collaborative learning strategies and that the tools helped students to learn from one another. Bring your lunch, ideas, and questions for this informative session. Snacks and refreshments will be available.
