  • Online Teaching and Learning Strategies

  • Description: In this course, we will introduce you to current research and best practices for online teaching as well as showcase examples of successful teaching strategies for the online environment. Throughout the course you will work both independently and collaboratively with your peers to gain valuable online course transition experience and develop your own strategies for online teaching and learning. As a participant, you will learn both pedagogical aspects of teaching online as well as how to use and incorporate many of the tools available in the myCourses Learning Management System used at UMassD. The ultimate goal of the course is to have you begin planning, organizing, and building the online course you eventually plan to teach. In addition, this course will introduce you to techniques that will teach you how to self-assess course site design to ensure student ease of access to course content and to facilitate more streamlined student learning and increase retention.

  • Description: This workshop covers the creation of lists/reports using student data based on items such as Career, Program, Plan, Admit Terms, Expected Graduation Date, GPA, Advisors, Class & Section, and much more. Lists can be saved in Excel or PDF and can also be used to email students. Contact Brian Sullivan for more information at 508-999-8795, or email bsullivan@umassd.edu. This workshop will take place in the Library, room 135. This is a new 10-computer training space that opened this semester. To get there, bear left when you enter the main Library floor, walk past room 128, and enter the glass door marked 135. Turn left to get to the training room.

  • Description: This workshop covers the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. Through hands on exercises, participants learn how to create professional presentations. The uses of different views are explored, including the use of outlining, and the slide sorter. Also covered are the addition of images, sounds, animation and video to your presentation.
