  • ORAL COMPREHENSIVE EXAM FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDACY BY: Longtao Xu
  • Location: Science & Engineering Building, Lester W. Cory Conference Room: Room 213A
  • Cost: Free
  • Contact: ECE: Electrical & Computer Engineering Department
  • Description: TOPIC: HYBRID INTEGRATED MICROWAVE PHOTONICS LOCATION: Lester W. Cory Conference Room, Science & Engineering Building (Group II), Room 213A ABSTRACT: MWP links are attractive for many applications such as radar front end, antenna remoting systems, and wireless access networks. Conventional RF Photonic links have restricted SFDR due to the nonlinear distortions in the optical modulation or demodulation processes. A promising solution is the ACP-OPLL MWP link, which has a potential to achieve ~140 dB·Hz2/3 SFDR in 1GHz information bandwidth. The objective of this proposal is to develop a hybrid integrated ACP-OPLL MWP link that can achieve~140 dB·Hz2/3 SFDR in 1GHz information bandwidth. Each device of the link is made of its most suitable material so that best system performance is possible. Wafer boning and an on-chip mirror are used to provide tight integration of devices made of different material to minimize the feedback path length and the system size. NOTE: All ECE Graduate Students are ENCOURAGED to attend. All interested parties are invited to attend. Open to the public. Advisor: Dr. Yifei Li Committee Members: Dr. David A.
