ECE MS THESIS DEFENSE BY: Qisi Liu
- Location: Science & Engineering Building, Lester W. Cory Conference Room: Room 213A
- Cost: Free
- Contact: ECE: Electrical & Computer Engineering Department
- Description: TOPIC: RELIABILITY OF CLOUD-RAID STORAGE SYSTEM
LOCATION: Lester W. Cory Conference Room, Science & Engineering Building (Group II), Room 213A
ABSTRACT:
Cloud storage is a crucial component of cloud computing, where cloud storage providers supply a large amount of on-demand data storage so that users can save and retrieve their data anytime anywhere in the cloud. Any service interruption or failure could have a negative and serious impact on the reputation of cloud service providers. Therefore, it is significant to model and design reliability for cloud storage systems. The RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) technology is one of the most effective ways to achieve data reliability. There are several standard RAID levels with different fault tolerance techniques.
In this thesis we model and evaluate reliability of RAID-5 and RAID-6 configurations implemented in the cloud infrastructure (referred to as cloud-RAID-5 and cloud-RAID-6, respectively). A two-level hierarchical analytical modeling method is proposed, which integrates a Markov model at the lower level for a single disk state probability evaluation and a multi-valued decision diagram model at the higher level for the entire cloud-RAID storage system state probability (including unreliability) evaluation. Different disks within the fault-tolerant cloud-RAID system can be statistically non-identical. Case studies are provided to illustrate the proposed methodology.
NOTE: All ECE Graduate Students are ENCOURAGED to attend.
All interested parties are invited to attend. Open to the public.
