Webinar: Using Reason to Resolve Conflict
- Location: > See description for location
- Contact: Human Resources
- Description: Whether they take place in the workplace or in one's personal life, conflicts are inevitable; however, that does not mean that they must always be damaging. When emotions are understood and reason is used to handle conflict, the result can actually be strengthened relationships rather than damaged ones. This workshop discusses how you can replace pure emotion with rational decision-making when dealing with conflict.

“Tracking air-sea energy exchange through observations of Turbulent Kinetic Energy dissipation rates in the New England Shelf “
Alejandro Cifuentes-Lorenzen
Associate Research Scientist
University of Connecticut, Avery Point Campus
Wednesday, December 7, 2022
12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
SMAST East, Rooms 101/102
and via Zoom
Abstract:
We present preliminary results from a 2019 field campaign designed to explore the role of wave-driven turbulence in air-sea interaction by resolving Turbulent Kinetic Energy (TKE) dissipation rates above and below the air-sea interface. A series of subsurface ocean side measurements confirm a TKE dissipation rate enhancement relative to the law-of-the-wall. We associate this enhancement to active wave breaking and track the wind energy input to the wave field through joint atmospheric measurements. Observations of the TKE dissipation rate on the atmospheric side were used to capture wave-induced perturbations and estimate the energy flux into the wave field. With these unique set of TKE dissipation rate measurements across the air-sea interface we are able to start addressing wind energy input partitioning into the wave field from a growth and dissipation perspective.

Abstract:
This presentation describes an ongoing project to enable decision makers to evaluate economic aspects of adopting on-demand fishing gear for the lobster fishery in Massachusetts and adjacent federal waters. This effort employs a simulation modeling under uncertainty framework to explore alternate adoption scenarios, and is based on a range of available fishery-dependent data reporting and a series of stakeholder surveys/interviews conducted in an earlier phase of the project. As an ongoing project, the presentation will review our progress to-date and summarize conceptual issues we are working through.
