Abstract geometric paintings by New Bedford artist John Havens Thornton (b. 1933). Thornton has exhibited since the early 1960s, notably at the ICA, Boston (1967), the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (1970), the Whitney Museum of American Art (1967), the Rose Art Museum, Waltham, MA (1979), the De Cordova Museum, Lincoln, MA (1987), and the New Bedford Art Museum, MA (2004).

Picturing Frederick Douglass

- Description: Frederick Douglass was the most photographed American in the nineteenth century. He envisioned the the new technology of photography at the time as a crucial aid in ending slavery, racism and achieving human rights.
John Stauffer, Professor of English and African American Studies at Harvard and author of Picturing Frederick Douglass will highlight some of the images in his new book and share his insights on how Douglass crafted and controlled his personal image.
Join us Wednesday, September 21 from 5 - 7 p.m. in the Grand Reading Room at the Claire T. Carney Library at the UMass Dartmouth.
Event is free and open to the general public with light refreshments served.
This event is made possible through a 2016 UMass President's Creative Economy Initiatives Fund and organized in conjunction with the New Bedford Historical Society.

Introduction to Qualtrics

- Description: UMass Dartmouth has selected Qualtrics as our Internet survey tool. All Faculty and Staff have access to create and publish their own surveys. Students may also use Qualtrics under the direction of a Faculty or Staff member. This workshop covers the authoring and administration of surveys, as well as data collection. Question types are covered in detail, and survey logic is also included. No previous survey experience is necessary.
Note that access to Qualtrics is managed by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. Please contact Jonathan Bonilla at JBonilla1@umassd.edu at least three business days prior to this workshop to request access.
