Today's Challenges for Public Sector Workers and Unions

- Description: This program is offered by the UMD Labor Education Center.
We will work together to deepen our knowledge and understanding of how public employees, and particularly public sector unions are under fire from privatization and how we are fighting back. We will have a broader discussion, then hear about statewide, and national campaigns, to confont privatization. This class will be co-led by Josà Soler, of the Labor Education Center and Anneta Argyres of the UMass Boston Labor Extension Program.
The class will be held at the UMD Worker Education Program classrooms at 800 Purchase St., New Bedford.

Introduction to PowerPoint

- Description: This workshop covers the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. Through hands on exercises, participants learn how to create professional presentations. The uses of different views are introduced, including the use of outlining, and the slide sorter. Also covered are the addition of images, sounds and video to your presentation. No previous PowerPoint experience is needed.

The gallery has a wall available for postings of materials measuring up to 8.5x11 inches. This is open to anyone who would like to contribute a work of art, a poem, and/or a letter or postcard sent from a real or imagined trip to Paris.

Getting Started with Wikis & Blogs
- Location: Claire T. Carney Library, Room 225

- Contact: CITS Instructional Development
- Description: This hands-on workshop explores wikis and blogs and their use as instructional tools for collaborative content creation. Wikis can be used for generated content, such as student group projects, website, research projects, writing assignments, project development, and peer review. Workshop participants will create and configure a wiki utilizing the UMassD Wiki farm hosted by Wikispaces.
Then discover how blogs can be used to journal, sharing of information, and even online course sites. Participants will create and configure a UMassD blog, learn how to post and add comments, add templates, images and media.
