  • Description: September 16, October 14, November 18 – 12:30-1:30pm in OFD Lounge Facilitated by Cathy Smilan On the recommendation of the faculty, OFD is piloting a book club session this semester. OFD's book club selection for Fall 2014 is Active Learning: Cooperation in the College Classroom by Johnson, Johnson & Smith. Beyond assigning groups of students to work together on projects, this college-level based text addresses the role assignment, fostering interdependence, scope and sequence planning and time management for using cooperation in the classroom. The text is a follow-up to the September 8 workshop on Cooperative Learning faciliated by Lorraine Cross, a Johnson and Johnson trained educator. Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the text and join in monthly discussions about this teaching strategy. Ms. Cross will be available via Skype at the book club sessions to answer questions related to the methodology. We look forward to active participation through discussion of the reading and examples from your classrooms. Book: Active Learning: Cooperation in the College Classroom (2006, 8th Edition). David and Roger Johnson and Karl Smith. (a limited number of copies will be available to participants).   • Creating Forms with Adobe Acrobat

  • Description: This workshop provides an introduction to Adobe Acrobat. Acrobat is used to create, edit and manage Portable Document Format (PDF) files. PDF files can be set up as interactive forms for distribution and data collection. Participants learn to work with Acrobat’s toolbars, navigate, edit and annotate PDF documents, manage bookmarks, and set document security via passwords. Also covered are Acrobat’s form features, from form creation through distribution and compiling responses. No previous Acrobat experience is required.
