Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Room 213
Description: Wednesday, February 2, 2022

Facilitator: Justine Dunlap, UMass Law

This workshop will demystify contemplative pedagogy. What do we mean by "contemplative pedagogy"? What is it, what is it not, and why it is appropriate in a public university? This workshop will focus on contemplative pedagogy as simply a way to "develop concentration, deepen understanding and insight and cultivate awareness and compassion" (Deborah Haynes, quoted in Parker and Zajonc, The Heart of Higher Education: A Call to Renewal). This introduction to contemplative pedagogy will also identify specific ways to encourage and support all faculty who are interested in this topic.

The OFD continues to offer programming in hybrid modality for Spring 2022. Please register for the workshop by emailing Ellen Mandly at emandly@umassd.edu and please declare your modality preference (virtual or in-person) when registering. Lunch will be available for all in-person participants, and can be taken "to go" at the end of the session. In compliance with UMass Dartmouth policies, masks or face coverings must be worn in the Office of Faculty Development.
