Description: TOPIC: RELIABILITY OF MULTISTATE DEPENDENT CLOUD-RAID 5 WITH IMPERFECT COVERAGE
LOCATION: Lester W. Cory Conference Room
Science & Engineering Building (SENG), Room 213A
ABSTRACT:
Cloud-RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a fault-tolerant data storage model, where different data redundancy techniques (corresponding to different levels) are utilized to enhance data availability and reliability in an anytime, anywhere data access framework implemented in the cloud environment. The performance and operation of physical disk drives in a cloud-RAID storage system are managed by and dependent on a controller. Also, each disk may exhibit multiple performance levels varying from perfect function to complete failure. The inter-component dependent behavior and the multistate behavior pose challenges to the reliability analysis of cloud-RAID systems. Further, the system can be subject to imperfect fault coverage due to imperfect fault detection or recovery mechanism, causing extensive damage to the whole system. In this research, we model reliability of a cloud-RAID 5 storage system addressing effects of dependence, multistate and imperfect coverage. Numerical results are provided to illustrate effects of those behaviors on the system reliability performance.
