Description: By Prof. Royal Hartigan, at CVPA Room 108
Please join us in a conversation on non-Western teaching & learning strategies through music. Prof. Hartigan (CVPA) will focus on learning traditional Javanese gamelan as a way to reinforce the educational and social values of community, interdependence, and equality. This will be accomplished by playing together in a traditional Javanese gamelan gong orchestra from Indonesia. No previoius musical experience is necessary.
Note: Any faculty who want to hear the Javanese gamelan prior to the workshop can come to CVPA 108 (the same room as the workshop) any time after 10:30 AM to listen to the ensemble to get a better sense of the whole sound.
Lunch will be provided, please RSVP at the UMD Calendar.
