Description: In collaboration with the Center for Portuguese Studies, the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives will kick off the celebrations for its 10th anniversary by hosting a free piano recital by Portuguese pianist, Ines Andrade. The piano recital will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on 24 October 2019 in the Main Auditorium (Room 102), McLean Campus Center. Doors will open at 6:15 PM. Guests should use parking lots 5 and 6.

Ines Andrade holds both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Escola Superior de Musica de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal). She is a recent graduate of Boston University where she earned her Doctor of Musical Arts. Her dissertation project was entitled,Tradition and Innovation in the Piano Works of Portuguese composer Antonio Fragoso.

Andrade has performed throughout the United States and Europe in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall (United States), Centro Cultural de Belem (Portugal) and Teatro Comunale Luigi Russolo (Italy). She is a versatile soloist and chamber pianist who has been praised for her lyricism and wonderful musicianship (DiÃrio de Noti­cias). Most recently, Andrade completed a tour in China.

Throughout her career Andrade has earned multiple awards such as the Portuguese Young Musicians Prize, and the 2013 Steinhardt Piano Concerto Competition. She is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Bendada Music Festival, a youth summer festival in Portugal which won the 2017 CFA Spark Grant.

Dr. Paula Celeste Gomes Noversa, the new Faculty Director of the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives stated, I cannot imagine a better way to begin celebrating the Archives 10th anniversary than to bring such a talented and creative artist to the campus for the benefit and enjoyment of the Portuguese-American community.
