Description: This year, the OFD has been running a series of workshops on Reimagining Rigor and Resilience, highlighting approaches to both challenging students and also crafting the support structures needed for them to meet those challenges. To that end, this semester's Opening Dialogue will focus on striking a balance between building relationships in the classroom (a strong factor in student success) and concrete, extrinsic motivators that can encourage students to show up, build those relationships with faculty and each other, and ultimately become more invested in their own processes of learning. Several starting points for this Opening Dialogue will be drawn from James M. Lang and Krisi Rudenga's Chronicle of Higher Education article, "How to Embrace the Power of Extrinsic Motivation in Class", and we hope it will be an opportunity for us to share and learn from each other.
