Description: First-year PhD student Robin Cabral revisits his honors thesis from UMass Amherst, "From Damsel in Distress to Leading Lady," where he examines femininity in the Super Mario Universe by applying queer and translation studies to Princess Peach, Birdo, and Vivian. He examines how cis and trans women are represented across games, eras and languages to show how games reflect and refract cultural understanding and awareness of these topics, from perpetuating and breaking stereotypes, to reverting and progressing.
