SMAST E 101-102 and via Zoom
Abstract:
The northern stock of Black Sea Bass, Centropristis striata, has spatially expanded over the past decade, potentially due to warming northwest Atlantic shelf waters affecting overwintering. Yet, current inshore winter temperatures below the species thermal minima require them to seasonally migrate to favorable winter conditions on the continental shelf – which might limit an even larger increase in abundance. Here, I will provide a synthesis of current research efforts using both long-term mesocosm experiments and predictive climate modeling to assess how C. striata overwintering dynamics may change under continued future climate projections.
