  • Introduction to Qualtrics
  • Location: Library 135
  • Cost: Free!
  • Contact: > See Description for contact information
  • Description: UMass Dartmouth has selected Qualtrics as our Internet survey tool. All Faculty and Staff have access to create and publish their own surveys. Students may also use Qualtrics under the direction of a Faculty or Staff member. This workshop covers the authoring and administration of surveys, as well as data collection. Question types are covered in detail, and survey logic is also included. No previous survey experience is necessary. Note that access to Qualtrics is managed by the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment. Please contact Jonathan Bonilla at JBonilla1@umassd.edu at least three business days prior to this workshop to request access. Contact Rich Legault for more information at 508-999-8799, or email RLegault@umassd.edu. Seating is limited, so please register today!

  • Joint Mechanical Engineering / Engineering & Applied Sciences Seminar by Dr. Jingzhou Zhao
  • Location: Textiles Building 101E
  • Contact: Mechanical Engineering Department
  • Description: Joint Mechanical Engineering (MNE) and Engineering and Applied Sciences (EAS) SEMINAR DATE: March 22, 2019 TIME: 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. LOCATION: Textile Building, Room 101E SPEAKER: Dr. Jingzhou Zhao, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Western New England University TOPIC: Fluid Interface Control for Nanomanufacturing ABSTRACT: Owing to their unique plasmonic, magnetic and surface properties, crystalline nanoparticles and nanowires (gold, silver, and platinum, etc.) with or without surface coatings are widely utilized in energy and biomedical applications ranging from photovoltaic to cancer treatment. However, the scalable production of these structured nanomaterials at industrially relevant scales has been a long-standing challenge due to the intrinsic complexity involved in their chemical synthesis, limiting their market penetration. This seminar focuses on the recent progress made in the use of fluid interface control strategies toward the high-volume production of metal nanowires and nanoparticles, exemplifying novel reaction-free methods as new pathways toward scalable manufacturing of structured crystalline nanomaterials. BIO: Dr. Zhao received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (2011) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University with emphases in Mechatronics and Automation, master’s degree (2013) at University of Wisconsin-Madison on microsensors for in-situ monitoring systems, and Ph.D. degree (2017) at University of California, Los Angeles, with a focus on scalable manufacturing of metal nanomaterials. Upon graduation, Dr. Zhao immediately joined Western New England University to establish the Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Processing Laboratory, which conducts basic and applied research targeting fundamental challenges in manufacturing. Dr. Zhao’s current research focus is on the establishment of novel manufacturing processes, theoretical models, computational methods, and control strategies for the high-volume production of structured nanomaterials and advanced sensors. For more information please contact Dr. Jun Li, MNE Seminar Coordinator (jun.li@umassd.edu, 508-999-8692). Students currently taking MNE-500 are REQUIRED to attend!! All other MNE BS and MS students are encouraged to attend. EAS students are encouraged to attend, as well. Thank you, Sue Cunha, Administrative Assistant Mechanical Engineering Department scunha@umassd.edu 508-999-8492
