Andrea Bowers: Art that Activates Artist Lecture

When: Wednesday, April 10, 2024
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: CVPA Room 153
Cost: Free
Description: Andrea Bowers is a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles who combines artistic practice with activism and advocacy, speaking to deeply entrenched inequities as well as the generations of activists working to create a more just world. Bowers has built an international reputation as a chronicler of contemporary history, documenting activism as it unfolds and collecting research on the front lines of protest. Her work was included in the 2004 Whitney Biennial and 2008 California Biennial, and her recent solo exhibitions included retrospectives at the Hammer Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art. Until recently, she was also a faculty member in the MFA program at Otis College of Art and Design.

She has a BFA in Drawing from Bowling Green University and an MFA in Art from CalArts. To learn more about her work, please visit: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/30/arts/design/andrea-bowers-museum-chicago-activist-art.html

There will also be a luncheon that is open to all faculty at noon at the Office of Faculty Development where the artist will discuss the role of research in her art practice.

This event is part of Arts Alive! Collaborative Approaches in Arts and Humanities, a series of events organized by the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Office of Faculty Development, and the College of Arts and Sciences to highlight the relevance of art and humanities in today's world.
