Description: UMass Dartmouth hosts the 2016 LusoFest, March 9-12.

The UMass Dartmouth community and the general public are invited to a celebration of Portuguese heritage and culture at the 2016 LusoFest, March 9-12, presented by UMass Dartmouth's Fitzpatrick Luso-American Endowment and the Fall River Public Schools Fine Arts Department.

The celebration will include a series of performances and lectures hosted on UMass Dartmouth's campus. 2016 LusoFest includes:

March 9, 7pm

Portuguese rock band "Os Desalinhados"
Followed by a jam session and discussion.
College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) Building, Room 104, 7 p.m.


March 10, 12:30pm

"Taking Stock of Portuguese-American Literature"
Afternoon Series Lecture by Dr. Frank Sousa
CVPA Building, Room 153


March 11, 7pm

A Night of Portugese Music and Movement; Fado e Danca
Fado singer Ana Vinagre will be accompanied by Sr. Viriato Ferreira and Sr. Jose Silva, followed by the Rancho Folklorico Portugues (Portuguese United for Education). Special introduction by photographer Peter Pereira.

March 12, 6pm

Grande Banda Filarmonica
150 piece ensemble plays traditional big band repertoire.
Our Lady of Angels Band (New Bedford), Tony DaCosta, conductor Our Lady of Light Band (Fall River), Manuel Canito, conductor Sehnor da Pedra Band (New Bedford), Alfred Pacheco, conductor St. Anthony's Band (Fall River), Joao DaSilva, conductor St. Cecilia Band (Fall River), Peter Camara, conductor.
