Language Matters: Statistically LGBTQ identified students are more likely to have a low appraisal of their emotional health, to be diagnosed with psychological disorders (36.8% of LGB and 52.3% of Trans) and to be prone to self-injury and suicidal ideation (https://www.bu.edu/sph/2019/08/16/transgender-college-students-face-enormous-mental-health-disparities/). At a time when many are forced to live at home with family who do not support their identities, how can staff and faculty be knowledgeable about recognizing their needs and offering support?
