As we aim for racial justice in our country and seek to be liberated from our painful history of white supremacy, it is critical for each of us to explore our various identities and to self-reflect with honesty and candor about what we've learned and haven't learned about systemic racism. This self-confrontation is an ongoing, lifetime effort and, while sometimes painful, can be powerfully transformative and lead to true liberation. We owe it to ourselves, our families, our colleagues, and particularly to our students to combine this self-reflection with the pursuit of knowledge and information that may have been left out of or distorted in our formal education. This session is an opportunity to begin or continue that process with the hope that this will lead us to better see and serve our students and each other.
