4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Where: > See description for location
Description: The Department of English and Communication, with the support of the College of Arts and Sciences, invites you to our annual Shakespeare's Birthday Lecture! On Thursday, April 15, 2021 at 4 p.m. via Zoom, Dr. Erika Boeckeler, Associate Professor of English, Northeastern University, will deliver a talk titled "Paper Othellos: Setting Race and Gender on Edge." This talk invites its audience into the seventeenth century archive to look carefully at two images "hiding in plain sight" that appear on the first pages of the play. These striking images present a gateway into the racial and gender dynamics, symbolic objects, and even the poetics of Shakespeare's masterpiece play.

This lecture will be virtual, and all are invited. For registration information, please follow this link: https://umassd.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJEoce-upzwiGtzEgn-wxJUzHIQZTOaOUvlh

After registering, you will receive an email from Hailey Duquette (admin of the English and Communication department) as a confirmation of your approved registration, featuring a hyperlink reading "Click Here to Join" that will bring you to the secure Zoom meeting.

If you have any questions about the event, please email Professor Jay Zysk at jzysk@umassd.edu.
