Description: Anti-Asian Violence, Intersectional Forms of Oppression, and Coalition-Building
Friday, April 16, 2021 at 4:00pm
Recent violence against AAPI people and communities have brought anti-Asian racism to the foreground, and highlighted the lack of acknowledgement of anti-Asian racism. At the same time, it raises a number of questions: who is represented when we say "Asian"? What kinds of different experiences and divisions exist within Asian communities, and between Asian communities and other groups that face racialized violence? And how do we navigate these differences in solidarity with each other? This event, facilitated by Dr. Katie Krafft (Crime and Justice Studies) and Vickayla Hoeun ('21), will explore these past and present obstacles, and imagine present and future possibilities.
Sponsored by the Department of Crime and Justice Studies and the Frederick Douglass Unity House. Zoom registration is required.
