Higher ed accreditation has driven a highly bureaucratic and formulaic approach to program assessment over the last decade-and-a-half. Now a number of voices that were central to this approach, including assessment professionals, faculty who direct assessment, accreditation commissioners, and others are arguing that institutions should implement processes to improve student learning, whatever form that may take, instead of narrowly focusing on measuring student outcomes (often with dubious data). In this workshop, we will discuss this movement and talk about some of the forms an improvement process might take. Participants will explore ways they might shift from an assessment to improvement cycle in their programs.

To register, please email Ellen Mandly at emandly@umassd.edu. We encourage you to join our programs in person, especially if you are already on campus. If you are not, know that our programming will remain accessible through the continued offering of virtual participation. Please indicate modality preference when registering. Lunch will be provided for all in-person participants.
