Part One: Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education

When: Monday, September 25, 2023
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Office of Faculty Development
Description: In 1987, Arthur Chickering and Zelda Gamson wrote a now frequently-cited piece titled "Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education." As we seek to become more impactful, more reflective, and more energized in our teaching, it may be time to revisit some of these essential best practices. They include everything from developing reciprocity among students and fostering active learning to giving prompt feedback and communicating effectively with students to communicating high expectations and respecting diverse and inclusive ways of learning. In this session, we'll review Chickering and Gamson's article and spend some time thinking through their seven best practices. We'll consider how we already model them in our courses, and where we may fall short; we'll also spend some time thinking about how we can innovate our best practices to meet student needs of the moment.
