Description: While it's nearly certain that everyone has heard something of the hubbub surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) on college campuses, far less certain is that everyone has the same level of information about what AI is and how it might affect their own particular classroom experiences. This informational overview and mini-workshop is meant address this, and to provide a few key elements: basic history and definitions of large-language-model AI technologies, discussion of the current iteration (e.g. ChatGPT) in use today, response technologies (e.g. GPTZero), and a brief overview of these technologies' relations to student instruction. Attendees will also have time to discuss specific course activities and the possible effects AI might have on them. Most of all, however, the session is meant to provide a judgment-free space for campus community members to level-up their knowledge and share without any presumption of prior expertise with/about AI technologies, and to provide a helpful basis for participation in future programming about AI from the OFD to follow this term.
