Lectio Divina as a Pedagogical Tool for Promoting Global Citizenship (GCE)

When: Monday, October 16, 2023
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Office of Faculty Development
Description: This session explores lectio divina as a pedagogical innovation for promoting greater awareness and understanding of Global Citizenship Education (GCE). GCE holds the power to enhance civic learning by fostering the active participation needed for addressing global issues. The contemplative pedagogy in the Lectio Divina process involves four steps: Lectio, Meditatio, Oratio, and Contemplatio. Each stage of this communal reading process opens doors to Global Citizenship Education (GCE), offering an embodied process designed to teach the whole person. In each of these four steps, participants are asked to engage with a poem or textual passage in a specific way, lending itself to deeper engagement. Through this session, participants will gain new insights about how they might utilize lectio divina to promote GCE, along with enhanced global awareness.
