Contemplative Practices and Pedagogy Faculty Learning Community

When: Thursday, November 16, 2023
12:30 PM - 1:45 PM
Where: Claire T. Carney Library, Office of Faculty Development
Description: Walking a labyrinth is considered a type of movement contemplative practice and is finding a place on many higher education campuses. Weather permitting…we will start by meeting at our Labyrinth on campus (at 12:30), experience what it’s like to walk it, and return to OFD to discuss our experiences and share how it’s been used in the classroom. Plan B, if the weather doesn’t permit this is to start at OFD, we will try out a finger labyrinth practice (also good for classroom use) before our discussion. We will email participants Thursday morning to confirm the place of the meeting.

Background: This FLC, started last year, focuses broadly on ways to incorporate contemplative practices into the classroom. These practices can be as simple as reflective journaling or deep reading. The community supports and encourages colleagues who want to incorporate these practices into their classroom. Each session is a stand-alone event, and all are welcome to join us for any or all sessions. Participants need no prior experience and --bonus--no advance reading or prep required!
Topical Areas: Faculty, Faculty Development
